Not My Mother’s Daughter, Part 1

It was the last subject was the day and the biology teacher, Mr. Kukule had just left the class. As her classmate gathered their books into their bags and happy the school has closed for the day, Temi, was not happy. Rather, she dreaded going home. She sat back heavily on her seat, looking at her friends walked out of the classroom. But she can't stay long in the school or she did be in trouble. She stood up just like her best friend Shade, who is in the Art called to her from the opened window

Eh, Temi, are you not going home? I am so hungry, so you better pack up your things and let be on our way or I will leave you behind" she said

"I'm coming, Shade, just give me a minute to pack my books" Temi called out to Shade.

"You better hurry up" shade responded has she moved from one foot to the other and swinging her bag from it handle.
Seeing the impatient of her friend, Temi quickly pack her well used and torn bag and join Shade outside.

"But, Temi, you can't avoid going home, though I understand what you are going through but you have to go home or do you what happened the last time to happen again" Shade, said immediately she spotted, Temi at the the classroom entrance.

" You are not in my shoes or you won't talk like that. You just don't know what she is like" Temi said to her frie
For a while they were quiet has they walked along the road. Both consumed with their thought. Suddenly, Shade, shouted happily " Temi, Temi, I forgot to tell you, my dad gave me my WASCE fees and I've already paid in the principle's office this morning. What about you, when are you paying? She asked.

"Seriously, I don't know but I have hope that I will pay before the form closes"

Ok, Shade said and another silence ensued between them. Before long they got to, Temi's street which was the first and the girls said their goodbye to each other.
