Professionalism will take over in nollywood - Hafiz Oyetoro
Many find themselves interpreting roles by chance but nollywood actor and lecturer, Hafiz Oyetoro is a certified actor for more than 20 years. In this chance meeting with him, he told, Abimbola Adebayo, what makes him tick, enjoy.
Hafiz Oyetoro, studied Theater Act at the University of Obafemi Awolowo and University of Ibadan and holds other educational degrees. And since then he has been acting and If one count the numbers of years he had been acting then he is ripe enough to say he is a practititioner.
And for someone like him, he does not found himself in the industry by chance or because it is a lucrative venture to get food on his table, rather it was because of his love for acting.
The embullent actor in Nigeria today, has worked his way into becoming one of the most recognised actor in nollywood and If not for anything then the prowell of skills he displayed in love by his fans. All this does not just happened for the light skin actor overnight, this is a of years of hardworkand dedication to what he love doing and also have people look out to watch him on their television.
And since then he has found himself acting in one movie, soap opera it has always been a joy for, Oyetoro, because, that his a place he found he can always expressed himself and his skill. To, Oyetoro, he is living his dream to become one of the most recognised actor in Nollywood and outside Nigeria.
His journey into the hall of fame started with stage play and later on in television programme and one of them is the much celebrated drama 'House Apart' were he played the role of, Saka, which also feature, Dele Odule another well- know face in the entertainement industry and since then it has been one role and another most especially in soap operas.
Oyetoro, also have a couple of movies to his credit but he has become a regular fixture in soap opera and one he attributed to time management. For him, his job as a lecturer at the, Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education, gives him little time to take up movie roles like he would love to because he has to be on locations most of the time but for soap opera, he found out he can effectively manage his time between lecturing and acting. He can easily make himself available for his role because soap opera comes in episode which can be acted within the week unlike movies which comes in stretched of days or months.
Eventhough, he has create a name for himself which this days are very visible with many endorsement coming his ways which included his endorsement as one of the brand ambassador of Etisalat on of the telecommunications in the country, Oyetoro, he not yet at his peak because he still as a lot to contribute to the industry.
Oyetoro, would not just want, like they say as a local champion in Nigeria alone but to take his knowledge outside the shore of Nigeria. He planned to make sure that people know that he is ready to impact positively to the society and when he is gone from this world people would still remember his contribution to acting and the society at large.
He is well- known for playing comic roles in most movies and soap operas and Oyetoro is quick to attribute this to God and training that he has instill in himself over the years which has made him to creatively enable him to understand and delivers his roles but another thing the actor would want many to know is that he is a full threater act practitioner who can play different roles apart from comic roles. He is also a script writer, a director and producer. Playing funny roles , he attributed to sterotyping by producer, who are not ready to work.
To Oyetoro, Nollywood as come a long way, being that it is now the second largest in the world judging by the numbers of movies that is produced daily compared to what it used to be in the past ten years. 'We are becoming more recognised, though a lot needed to be done in time of quality. Here in Nigeria, a movie can be shot less than a month but in hollywood a can take a year to shoot a movie hence they have good qualities.'The entertainment industry potentials to move the industry forward'.
Quality is what sold a product and the quality of movies production has always been a challenge for movie producers, directors and cinematographer, scriptwriters and others involve in movies productions, However, Oyetoro, would rather want the industry to keep bring out, the bad,the ugly and the good so that at the end of the day the good ones will remain and the bad and ugly will fall out. According to him ' Before now there are many financial booker and financial houses but now the booker are no where to be found again because what will have now is financial houses' and to Oyetoro, professionalism will take over.
For Oyetoro, those that found themselves in the industry are not professionals and they are not ready to give the job to the professionals and also the industry lack strong associations that can help look at the quality and content of movies that are being produced but with times the thespian believe that the industry will move to a point when all the challenges will be wither out.
According to him ' The professional that ran away, when they could not find a means to survive in the industry are beginning to come back because they can see that the industry is growing and with time professionalism will take over. Right now, Nigerians are recieveing and holding big awards that are now becoming recongnised by the world'.
Oyetoro, started acting right from his primary school days and into his secondary school where he joined the school dramatic group. His love took him to the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, Osun State and University of Ibadan where, he studied thearter Act . He is a Master Degree holder in Theater Act which specialized in African Dance.
