It was raining when, Kola, let the office. Today, he wore a very sad look. As, he walked dejectedly down the street, he could not help thinking about his discussion with his boss, Mr. Rotimi Ogunmudede.
"Ha, Mr Olubambam, you are here" Mr. Ogunmudede, had said immediately Kola, walked through, his office door.
"Yes sir" Kola had replied.
"I will go straight to the point, Mr Olubambam. You see the management has decided to allowed, Ms. Katogin, to execute the Freshline Limited project, while you can do the one of Kososo Limited"
"But sir, I initiated and did all the necessary things concerning this project . I even had to spend my personal money to make this click. I wrote the proposal."
"Yes, we know that but, you see, the Freshline Limited project is something we all agreed will be well executed by Ms.Katogin" said Mr Ogunmudede.
"But, My Ogunmudede, you know as well as I do that this project was all my idea. It is wrong for someone else to be given the project" Kola said.
"Well, the management has decided and so, there is nothing that could be done about it".
"But sir, this is not fair! It is absolutely not accepted! I can't be believe after working so hard for that job, it will be given to someone else. What of my sleepless night. What about all the paper works?"
"Yes, that reminds me Mr. Kola. The management said you were to render all the necessary assistance to Ms. Katogin."
"No I won't do that. I will not take this. This is an injustice" angry Kola had replied.
"Then resign" Mr. Ogunmudede, had said.
An angry Kola had stormed out of his boss office.
As he reflect on what happened at the office, he failed to see or even heard the woman he buys bread from shouts greetings to him or the Okadaman honking for him to leave the road nor did he respond when the Okada man shouted curses at him. He was deep in thought.
He kept asking himself, if he should just resign but can he? His wedding his just 2 months away. He had planned a big society wedding with his fiancee. Had he not shot himself in the leg, Kola, keep asking himself. He had hope on the huge commission he was going to get from the Freshline Limited projects.
Gosh, what is he going to do now. Haa, God, how I hate you so much, Ogunmudede. To think this wicked, stupid man is married and still runs after all the young ladies in the office.
To imagine the numbers of time that he had caught the man kissing and groppling some of the young companies secretary even doing working hours.
Could that be the reason he had been subjected to this injustice? Could it be that the Freshline limited project taken away from him to intimidates him further into silence?
"I don't think so" Kola unknowingly said aloud, drawing glances from some people.
This man is turning me to a madman, imagine I, Kola Olubambam talking to myself on the road but I cannot let this man take what I worked for away from me and gives it to his lover. I must find away around this. No, I will not resign from that office. A game like no other will be played at Kuku's Limited! It is either they wins or I do!
With that decision, Kola opened the gate of his rented apartment. Saw, his car, which needed to be fixed by the mechanic and that of Tina, his fiancee.
He opened the door to his apartment to the aroma of, Tina's cooking and for the first time, he failed to have his usual appetite. He couldn't even developed his usual happiness at seeing, Tina, waiting for him to get back from the office with one her savoury dishes.
"Oh, God, see what this man has turned me to" he said aloud.
Hearing noises coming from the sitting room, Tina, appeared from the kitchen holding a napkin in her wet hands.
"Kola, welcome! You are back early today" Tina said coming close to give him a hug and kiss on his lips.
"Yes honey" decided to come early today" he replied.
"Kola, you don't look happy today, you are not your usual self. Is anything wrong?
"No, nothing is wrong. I'm ok. What're you cooking" Kola asked, trying to avoid more prying from, Tina, who looked at him more closely.
After a while, she shrugged off whatever she had wanted to say and replied she was cooking Amala and Ewedu, a favourite of Kola. Who, who even at that still do not seems happy.
Tina, walked back into the kitchen, leaving Kola to whatever was bothering him until he is ready to share it with her.
Kola sat heavily on his favourite coach in the spacious sitting room, staring around but not seeing anything in particular.
He was thinking how he was going to go about his revenge on his boss, Mr. Ogunmudede and Ms. Katogin.
He thought of one plan and another but he would quickly discard them but suddenly a plan came up and he smiled. Here is the game. I, Kola, is set to play the game my own way!
