Kudirat Abiola, Stella Adadevoh, Aisha Buhari among 22 women inducted into women hall of fame


The National Center for Women Develop has inducted 22 women into its hall of fame.

Among the Nigerian women inducted were, Kudirat Abiola, who was murdered during the struggle for the June 12, election, which was widely believed was won by her late husband, MKO. Abiola.


Late. Dr. Stella Adadevoh, who also sacrificed herself from keeping Nigeria saved from the Ebola virus, spreading after attending to the Liberian- American Lawyer, Patrick Sawyer, who brought the deadly disease into the country.

Also inducted into the female hall of fame is the wife of the president, Aisha Buhari for her, who was inducted for her contribution to the development of education of the female child and development of women and children as a whole.

Also recognised and inducted were Senator Oluremi Tinubu and Vintage Garba Masi, who were the first females to be elected into the senate to represent two states.

Speaking at the induction which held in Abuja, the Director-General of the center, Mary Ekpere-Eta, said the recognition of the 22 female icons, was the tradition of keeping the records of the wives of heads of states and presidents.

She said that the late Kudirat Abiola, who was murdered at the peak of the struggled for the realization of the June 12 election and Dr. Stella Adadevoh, who died from allowing the Ebola Virus from spreading in the country topped this years recognition into the women hall of fame which would hold every four years.

She, further said that there is need to celebrate women because of the many limitations the they are limited to in their quest to attain success. She added that such women have pave the ways for today's women.

”The hall of fame features a comprehensive display of records of women from the pre-colonial days, who played legendary roles in trade and commerce, politics, inter-tribal wars etc, but since 2007, no woman has made it to the hall. The Hall of Fame provides role models for younger girls and the society at large on the unlimited potential of women in Nigerian society,” Ekpere-Eta said.



The wife of the president, Aisha Buhari, was represented by her, Senior Special Advice, Mrs. Haji Sani and said

”It is the collective responsibility of women to continue to work in their different areas of specialisation toward contributing to nation building. I urge women to continue to operate in transparency, modesty, honesty and integrity which are core values of this administration and to contribute to next generation of women leaders,” she said.

The Special Adviser to the president on Diaspora, Abike Dabiri- Erewa, said that the centre would be a tourist spot for foreign nationals and diplomats when the visit the country. Has the centre has added the history of Nigerian women who have contributed to the development of the nation.
